Christian Louboutin's story is one of rags to riches. He was born to a working class family in Paris and fell in love with the glamourous showgirls that he encountered there. His very first shoe designs were inspired by these girls but unfortunately he was often unable to sell his designs to them as they were ordinary lassies who had not enough money for a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes. So... not much has changed there then!

 

He worked for Charles Jourdin and freelanced at Maud Frison, Chanel, Yves St Laurent and Sidonie Larizzi. He joined Roger Vivier in 1988 after working on a retrospective of Vivier's legendary shoes, including Marlene Dietrich's breathtaking diamond pumps.

 

The first Louboutin store opened in Paris in 1992 and the designs on display including Love, and Trash were immediately noticed by the fashionistas and celebs alike.

 

Today Louboutin adorns the feet of the rich, the famous and the royal around the world.
